On May 8,1938, in Red Banks, MS, the sixth child was born to Calvin Winford and Alberta Garrett, As Lloyd developed into his distinct personality, his brothers nicknamed him Fox. Lloyd accepted Christ at an early age and joined in fellowship with Mt. Newell CME church. As an adult, his faith in God travelled with him to Cleveland, OH., where he joined and became a faithful member of The Starlight Missionary Baptist Church in 1978 under the leadership of Pastor Edward Small. Lloyd was a charter driver of the church van and bus, "The Blue Goose." Lloyd served his tenure as chairperson of the Trustee ministry and continued serving actively until he transitioned.
Lloyd met the love of his life, Doris Ingram, in 1958. Their courtship carried into marriage in 1965. To this union, one son was born, Lloyd Christopher. He enjoyed raising his son and made sure to introduce him to life in Mississippi. Family vacations were often taken to Michigan, Illinois, Missouri, Tennessee, and Mississippi to visit. Being with family and friends gave him opportunities to share his blessings.
Lloyd's biggest joy came when he learned he would become a grandfather. After the arrival of Lloyd Christopher Garrett II, he was promptly titled "#1 Grandson" and given the nickname "Little Shoo". Some of his best times were those spent with "Shoo", watching him grow up and being present for every moment. He and his grandson developed a close bond that remained.
Lloyd grew up on the Garrett Farm working hard, which prepared him for a hard-working career at National Acme, where he retired. When people asked about working, he was proud to let them know "I'm retired!" He then took those hard-working skills to the bowling alley, throwing that 16-pound ball until his knees said "No More! Lloyd joined the Prince Hall Free & Accepted Masonic Lodge Ecclesiastes #120 and served over 50 years!
Lloyd was very content in life. No matter what was going on, If you asked how he was; His response would be "Everything is Alright!" The journey of his earthly life ended October 15, 2025, as he transitioned to his heavenly home. Now we all know that "Everything IS all right.
